A quick premise for the people that do not know who Monsanto is and what is high fructose corn syrup:
Monsanto is the leading producer of biochemical products and the world's largest seed company. It has monopolized agriculture and our food with its genetically engineered corn, soy and cotton.
From this GM corn, a substance is made: High fructose corn syrup; it's found as an ingredient in almost every conventional food. It's used as a sweetener, flavor enhancer, preservative and is cheap.
More and more studies are showing the dangerous effects of this substance that not only feeds humans but is used to feed livestock, pigs, chickens, fishes and even our precious bees!
This genetically engineered food has been deteriorating people's health for over 40 years since its introduction to our agriculture.
It was engineered to work in conjunction with the herbicide "Roundup" which contaminates water, soil and kills all plants and animals.
Ironically, this industry is heavily subsidized by the government; our tax money are put to work against us and to enrich corporations like Monsanto, Syngenta, Dow, Bayer etc.

Said this, since 2006, billions of bee colonies have died for no apparent reason. This phenomenon has affected the world's food production, and has been titled "Colony Collapse Disorder" (CCD). As you might know already, bees are responsible for 1/3 of the world's food production, and it is one of the world's most important natural assets.
We think of the CCD for the bees as the cancer for humans.
Other causes are pesticides, antibiotics, parasites, pathogens, livestock-like practices (bigger hive cell sizes, migratory stress, antibiotics, various chemicals used), drought, etc.
Also, as a result of this diet, the honey that gets produced is essentially high fructose corn syrup and honey mixed together; there isn't such a thing as "pure" or "natural" honey.
Now, why would beekeepers feed this poison to bees? Simply and tragically because it is a money saving solution, the quick fix mentality and the adoption of short sighted solutions.
Who's behind all of this?
The corporations that control corn, soy, cotton, also control nature, control our economy and society just like the fossil fuel industry does. Corporatism is killing nature and people, represents our current economy and laws, and is the new Nazism or form of imperialism.

This can only be achieved if we steer away from a chemical based agriculture and embrace an organic agriculture where principles of permaculture, sustainability and biodiversity are implemented.

They make a point when it comes to standing together to win the fight but a compromise like this one could give more power to these mega corporations than they already have. It could lead to irreversibility; an irreversibility referred to environmental damage rather than to a political status. Some principles should never be compromised!
I do not favor a coexistence with Monsanto and GMO technology in any way.
There cannot be such a thing. It's an oxymoron.
I am sure more details will be provided about this particular compromise, in the meantime we must not give up.

More and more evidence shows every day the failure of genetically engineered food. This technology has contaminated our food, water, depleted our soil, has impoverished and enslaved farmers, producing less in the long term and costing more. It is also a dangerous technology because of the unknown consequences on our nature and health which only make it scarier.
Indeed, this so called Journalist Michael Specter manages to get applauds and acceptance from the people in the audience at this TED conference (in the video above).
He manages with a skillful speech, an imaginary scenario of the human race using a time travel machine and a few jokes, to persuade them that GMO is beneficial although never quite spells it out.
He also associates the denial of the importance of vaccinations with the denial of the importance of GMO in our world.
This is said by him, all in the name of SCIENCE.
He knows that most people want to believe in science and love this word because it's almost a synonym of proof and truth.
Michael Specter knows that, and he made sure to use this word in the title of his talk: "Danger of Science Denial", thus gaining preliminary approval from the people.
Who wants to deny science?
Who wants to stand in the way of proof and truth?
"Stand down, you are wrong, and science says so!"
The main distinction that he fails to make is that SCIENCE can be good or bogus.
There is no science that supports GMO as beneficial for our world except a mass experimentation.
When it comes to vaccinations although important, not very much science stands behind it either.
"There are no requirements before FDA approval and licensing that a vaccine undergoes independent studies by researchers with no vested financial interests and industry ties in order to validate a vaccine maker’s claims. Rather, the entire approval process is nothing more than a good-faith relationship between the vaccine industrial complex and the FDA and the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACID), the primary entity determining vaccine policies." Science once stood behind the tobacco industry, and what about lead, mercury and the current 80,000 chemicals in use today of which only a few have been tested for safety?
Is this above science?
The main difference to draw is that science sponsored by an exploitative system can't be good science; Politics and money stand in the way.
What he calls a trend of denial among people I call it an awakening of the minds and the resurrection of the free thinker.
He says people are now skeptical, I say skepticism is a result of readily available information and also distrust in those agencies supposed to protect us but don't.
Another crucial aspect ignored by this journalist is that most of our SCIENCE comes from NATURE: Aspirin, morphine, need I say more?
You wouldn't want to deny NATURE either, would you?
To conclude, I am disappointed at all the people that applauded this speech. A speech that was free of technical, scientific and logical information to deserve such an acceptance.
One more time this shows me how words can convince people more than logic and what makes sense.
Did he offer a solution to our world's problems?
Did he mention we could improve our vaccinations? Did he just dismiss the whole organic agriculture, this body of science as no more, no less than a trend?
Oh well, so much for the Rodale Institute and alike, so much for precious amazonian plants that evolved after thousands of years.

70% percent or more of our food contains genetically engineered food brought by the bio-tech giant: Monsanto.
GMO is endangering people's health and our environment at an alarming rate. Cross-contamination is irreversible and good, organic crops are being jeopardized. These seeds are incredibly expensive compared to the traditional ones and have been genetically modified to produce their own pesticide, to survive the spraying of the: "Roundup", a potent herbicide and to self terminate.
This has lead our farmers to buy new GMO seeds each year and depend on Monsanto. As a result of this ruthless drive to use India as a testing ground for genetically modified crops, 125,000 farmers took their own lives. These people were driven to debt, to economic distress, homeless and landless.
GMO has and is failing catastrophically.
This company is persecuting, bullying and bringing farms to bankruptcy.
GMO was never adequately tested for safety, actually more and more research shows its dangers to the human/animal health, polluting our crops and our water.
Monsanto did use false advertising; Monsanto poisons the third world and privatizes water. Its employees have passed through the so-called revolving door many times, they rotated between this industry and the public agencies:
Clarence Thomas, Gwendolyn S. King, Linda Fisher, Jim Travis, Linda Avery Strachanand, Toby Moffet , Marcia Hale, DonaldBandle, George H. Poste, Michael Kantor and Michael Taylor all bending rules, finding loopholes to assure this company profits.
This technology is only exacerbating hunger, poverty, irreversible contamination and climate change in our world.
Bring down Monsanto's monopoly on our food and a centralized agriculture.
Bring down Monsanto's genetically engineered seeds.
Bring down the use of harmful pesticides, herbicides and chemicals alike.
Hold this company accountable for its damages to the world.
Organic agriculture, permaculture and biodiversity are the only answer to sustainability, to the preservation of our environment and our health.
We want you, as our government, as a body of representation of the people of the United States to invest billions subsidizing organic, environmental agriculture.
